Walden is embarking on a new endeavor. Our Taproots nonprofit seeks to bring to camp children who otherwise could not afford the experience we provide. By partnering with Michigan-based organizations that work in under-served communities, and establishing trust with those families, we hope to widen the population we serve to include more campers and staff of color and those from low-income households. Money raised through this brick campaign will go exclusively to Taproots.

Some of you had already seen our lovely Alumni patio and garden, between the Mess Hall and P&C benches. The garden features a center maple tree, colorful perennial plantings, and benches for relaxation and contemplation. We’d love to enhance it further with your commemorative brick. You can honor your summers spent at Walden or memorialize an alumnus who has passed away.

Bricks make wonderful gifts, are a perfect way to leave your mark on Walden, and now benefit the Taproots mission as well. Each custom 4” x 8” brick costs $135 ($145 with a Walden logo) and includes four lines of text (18 characters each), for your name, your years at Walden, your hometown, your cabin numbers, or any special message you desire. Eight-inch-by-eight-inch bricks cost $240 ($250 with Walden logo).

Thank you!

Honor your Walden years and support Taproots

diversity, equity, inclusion

Walden understands that a relevant camp community requires the harmonies of many voices—not only those that inspire, but also those that instruct and challenge. We strive to be a camp where diversity is celebrated and supported, and where each camper and staff member is provided the resources and opportunities to succeed. Our mission of teaching empathy and respect is incomplete if it only serves those who think and look like we do. We believe that our camp can be anyone’s camp, and that our greatest strength lies therein.

Walden is an Equal Opportunity Employer that hires qualified staff regardless of their race, religion, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, age, veteran status or any other basis covered by appropriate law.
